Depression over Bay: Odisha likely to receive rainfall in 24 hours

Bhubaneswar, May 28:

Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours under the impact of a depression concentrated over the Bay of Bengal, the MeT department said on Sunday.

The low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression. The system, which lay centred about 700 km south by south east of Paradip, is likely to move and cross the Bangladesh coast around May 30 noon, said weather officials.

The system is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours and a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours, it said.

The Bhubaneswar met centre issued advice for hoisting Distant Cautionary Signal number one (DC-I) at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in the state. It has also asked the fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.

Met centre director Sarat Chandra Sahu said the temperature will fall below 40 degree Celsius at several places under the impact of the depression and it will continue till June 2.

The temperature may increase from June 2 for two-three days. However, there may be rain after June 6, which may indicate arrival of the south-west monsoon, he added. (IANS)
