Depression over BoB: Alert for all ports in Odisha, check wind speed forecast & rain warning

Bhubaneswar: A danger warning has been issued for all ports in Odisha under influence of Depression formed over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood today.

According to IMD, the well-marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh & westcentral Bay of Bengal moved slowly west-northwestward, concentrated into a Depression and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 9th August, 2022 over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood near latitude 20.8oN and longitude 85.6oE about 70 km northnorthwest of Bhubaneswar (Odisha).

It is likely to move west-northwestwards, maintain its intensity today and weaken gradually into a well marked low pressure area over Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood by tomorrow (August 10).

In the wake of Depression, the IMD issued alert for all ports in Odisha. The danger warning (signal No.3) has been issued for Paradip, Puri, Dhamara, Chandabali and Gopalpur ports for today.

Under influence of the system, the squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely over North-west adjoining west central Bay of Bengal along & off Odisha till 11th August 2022.

Besides, the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over north-west adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal along & off Odisha coasts till 11th August 2022.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and Northwest adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal till 11th August, 2022.

Rainfall warning

Aug 9-10: Red warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul and Keonjhar.

Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Puri, and Rayagada.

Aug 10-11: Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bargarh

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur.

Aug 11-12: Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sambalpur, Jajpur and Bhadrak.

Aug 12-13: Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal.

Aug 13-14: Yellow warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Kandhamal and Ganjam with heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Boudh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.
