Depression to trigger rainfall in Odisha, cold wave continues

Rainfall in some parts of coastal and interior districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours is most likely as the well marked low pressure over south-west Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast, now lying over North Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast is all set to concentrate into a depression.

This was informed by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) here today.

Quoting the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the SRC release said a cloud patch emerging out from the system has appeared over Odisha under the influence of the low pressure.

Under its influence, rain and thundershower may occur at a few places in the coastal districts at one or two places in the interior districts.

The condition would prevail till next 72 hours, it added.

The release said that the farmers have been advised to keep their harvested crops and crops under harvest properly stacked in threshing ground, upland and covered and to keep the paddy in mandis under proper cover to protect against damage due to rain.

Meanwhile, the cold wave condition remains unchanged in the state.

A release by the local Met office here this evening said Jharsuguda was the coldest place with 6.4 degree Celsius while temperature remained below 10 degrees in Baripada (7.5), Keonjhar (6.7), Sambalpur (9), Sundargarh (8.9), Hirakud (7.9), Bhawanipatna (6.8), Koraput (8.2), Phulbani (8.4), Titlagarh (9.5) and Sonepur (9.5).

Besides, temperature remained between 10 and 13 degrees in Baleswar (10), Chandbali  (10.3), Cuttack (12), Bhubaneswar (13.9), Angul (10.6), Talcher (10.4), Bolangir (10), Malkangiri (11.4), Daringbadi (10.5) and Dhenkanal (10.9).
