Dereliction of duty: Warden suspended over escape of two UTPs from jail in Odisha’s Bolangir

Titilagarh: Sambalpur Range DIG of Prisons Kulamani Behera today placed a warden under suspension over the escape of two undertrial prisoners (UTPs) from Titilagarh sub-jail in Bolangir, following a probe into the matter. The fugitives had scaled a 14-feet-tall wall of the correctional facility on March 9.

According to an official source, the warden Dani Dora has been suspended for dereliction of duty. Taking advantage of security lapses, the UTPs who were previously lodged in the jail in two separate murder cases escaped from it. Mainly, the jail superintendent had been engaging the UTPs in his private work. The escape was the fallout of the jail superintendent’s negligence, the official source expressed.

Worth mentioning, the two fugitives have been identified as Sobhabana Rana and Sumeet Bihari.

The DIG of Prisons carried out a thorough investigation in the correctional facility for nearly six hours on Monday. He discussed with several staff and inmates to gather more information in this regard.
