Deserted 5 years ago, Bangladeshi woman searches for hubby in Odisha’s Balasore town

Balasore: A young woman from neighbouring Bangladesh yesterday reached her in-laws’ house at Budhakusumi village under Bhograi block and Kamardha police limits of Balasore district, in search of her husband. She was allegedly cheated on by the man from Odisha.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Ruma Mariyam, who hails from Amtali locality of Vardhana district of Bangladesh. The accused was identified as Birendra Pratap Bhanja from Balasore.

After she was ill-behaved by the in-laws, the woman met Balasore SP Sagarika Nath seeking justice.

According to an FIR lodged by Ruma with Kamardha police, she earlier came to know the accused man through Facebook. Gradually, both got familiar with each other and developed a love relationship.

Previously, Birendra had visited Bangladesh and met Ruma there. The couple got married in the presence of a Maulana at Bux Bazaar as per Muslim rituals and traditions. Subsequently, they stayed together for around five years in the locality.

Nearly a year ago, Birendra had come to his native village in Balasore but did not return thereafter. Even to the extent, he went incommunicado and had not kept any contact with the woman.

Ruma came to know a few days ago that Birendra is going to get married to someone else again.

Upset with the developments, the woman arranged a VISA to India and she reached here by train via West Bengal along with some credentials of her marriage with the accused.

“I will not return home unless and until I get justice,” Ruma asserted.
