Jharsuguda: A man was killed as he came under the chariot wheels and got crushed during Rath Yatra at Kukurjangha locality in Jharsuguda district, today.

The deceased man was identified as 45-year-old Shyam Sundar Kishan.

According to a source, when the pulling of the chariot of the Holy Trinity was underway in the evening, it rolled to a side. All of a sudden, this triggered a stampede-like situation. As a result, the chariot ran over a devotee leaving him grievously injured after he fell under the wheels. He became critical in the incident.

The injured was immediately rescued by some locals and was admitted to a nearby health facility for treatment. Later, he was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jharsuguda after his condition deteriorated. However, the man succumbed while undergoing treatment.

On being informed, local police seized the body and launched a probe into the fatal mishap.

In another incident in the day, a devotee died during Rath Yatra of the sibling deities in Puri. The man identified as Lalit Bagarti from Saintala block of Bolangir district got asphyxiated and was admitted to the DHH in the town. Later, he died while undergoing treatment.
