DGP inspects porous Odisha-West Bengal border areas

Balasore: A day after the Odisha government voiced concerns over rising number of COVID-19 cases among returnees from West Bengal, DGP of Odisha, Abhay today reviewed the police deployment on the border areas in Balasore district.

The DGP visited the Laxmannath inter-state check post and reviewed the police arrangement. He instructed officials to ensure that no one from West Bengal enters Odisha amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier at around 10.30 am, Abhay arrived at Balasore Reserve Police Ground in a helicopter. Later he visited Police Barrack, Town Police Station, Sadar Police Station and Sahadebkhunta Police Station. Also, he reviewed the police deployment at different chceck points in the town.

Among others, RDC Anil Samal, IG Eastern Diptesh Patnaik, Balasore Collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty and SP Jugal Kishore were present during the DG’s review meetings.

Worth mentioning, eight persons in Balasore district tested positive for the deadly virus. Yesterday the government said one third of the total COVID-19 positive cases in the State have travel history to West Bengal or connections with returnees from the neighbouring State.

After holding the reviews in Balasore, the DGP left for Mayurbhanj district, said official sources.
