Bhubaneswar: In a bid to tighten the noose around mafias, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) R P Sharma today instructed senior police officials of the state to take stringent actions against them.

The directive of the top cop came during a review of law and order in the state by him through video conferencing with all District Superintendents of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Inspector Generals of Police and DIGs.

It has been directed to the police officials to take strict action against transport mafias, drugs peddlers, illegal arms dealers and tender mafias.

The DGP also asked the police officers to arrest wanted criminals, launch massive drive in execution of pending NBWs, take steps for early closure of cases involving criminals and anti-socials, and book the anti-socials and criminals under various preventive sections of law.

He also emphasised on better inter-departmental coordination as well as earning good will of various segments of public to control crime. He advised the SPs to put in place adequate response system to respond immediately and proactively to any situation.
