Differently-abled girl raped inside toilet in Odisha’s Sundargarh; accused detained

Rourkela: A differently-abled girl was allegedly raped by a local youth inside a lavatory near the government industrial training institute (ITI) in Labour Tenement under Raghunathpali police limits in Rourkela of Sundargarh district, today.

According to a police source, the rape survivor resides in the locality along with her mother. The elderly woman works as a daily wager to eke out a living and to meet her household expenses. The girl was alone at home at around 2.00 pm when the youth came to her house. He lured the girl and took her to the secluded place where the accused forcibly outraged her modesty.

Even to the extent, the accused youth warned the rape survivor of dire consequences, in case she would disclose the incident to anybody. He asked her to return home. However, the victim girl narrated her plight after her mother returned home in the evening.

The victim’s mother lodged an FIR with Raghunathpali police, acting on which the police registered a case. Police detained the youth and initiated a probe into the incident.

The girl was handed over to her family after a medical examination was done on her.
