Disaster and pandemic management to be taught in schools, colleges in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Disaster and pandemic management will soon be part of high school and college curriculum. The Council of Ministers during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today passed a resolution in this regard.

Also, every Government employee will be trained on the fundamental nature of different kinds of disaster and pandemic management. Moreover, the Council of Ministers passed another resolution to ensure Government jobs and recruitment have a mandatory syllabus on disaster and pandemic management.

The elected representatives ranging from ward members to Chief Minister will be trained on disaster and pandemic management as well.

Members of our Mission Shakti groups, Vana Surakya Samitis and other community-based organizations will also be trained on disaster and pandemic management and equipped accordingly.

The Council of Ministers resolved to undertake systematic and detailed training programs to equip the citizens with adequate knowledge and skills in disaster and pandemic management and make Odisha a leading state in Disaster preparedness – ready to tackle any disaster whether its biological or climatic.

The State government in a statement said basically the objective is to have a ‘Yodha in every home of Odisha’.

The Council of Ministers also decided to form a task force to carry out the mission of building a disaster and pandemic resilient Odisha.
