Paradip, Dec 5:
Members of Handia Gramya Surakshya Samiti (HGSS) today staged a dharna in front of the main gate of Essar Steel’s unit at Odisha’s Paradip demanding fulfillment of their nine-point charter of demand.
The HGSS’s demands include rehabilitation of displaced families as per promise, appointment to youths who have undertaken training, provision of training to other youths, provision of job contract to displaced families and withdrawal of cases registered against its members during agitation in the past, reports said.
Despite the decision to fulfill the nine demands during a tripartite meeting between district administration, company authorities and HGSS, the company has been dithering, the reports added.
HGSS members alleged that the company instead of providing jobs to the displaced people was retrenching them.
HGSS warned to continue with its dharna till its demands are fulfilled.
