DMRC to help Odisha in preparing DPR of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Metro project

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to take the help of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the elevated rail-based metro system in Odisha capital.

The proposed metro project will initially connect the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, and is expected to cover other major areas surrounding the capital city such as Khurda, Puri, and more parts of Cuttack.

The Odisha Rail Infrastructure Limited (ORIDL), a joint venture of the Odisha government and the Ministry of Railways, will be aided by DMRC in preparing the DPR for the metro project. In the first phase of the project, the DPR for the elevated metro corridor between the city airport and Trisulia in Cuttack will be prepared by the entity.

BDA Vice-Chairman, Balwant Singh, said the project report for the city metro will consider the best global practices of the metro system. All line agencies have been instructed to coordinate with each other in an integrated manner for smooth execution of the work, he said.

To ensure the smooth functioning of the metro project, a city coordination committee comprising entities such as the city municipal corporation, development authority, commissionerate police, and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation has been formed.

The first meeting of the committee was held on Monday, where the officials discussed various aspects of the metro project, including the elevated corridor, elevated metro stations, and provisions for other amenities.
