Doc thrashes minor boy inside OT at Puri hosp in Odisha

Puri: A minor boy was allegedly beaten by a doctor inside operation theatre (OT) at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Odisha’s Puri.

According to reports, 10-year-old Jayaram Mansingh, son of Arjun Mansingh of Markandeswara Sahi in the town, was admitted to the DHH yesterday as he was suffering from pyomyositis. He was then taken to the OT for surgery.

Moments later, the boy started crying after allegedly being slapped by PK Jena, the doctor who was performing the operation. The victim sustained grievous injuries on his face.

Tension gripped the hospital premises after the incident came to fore as kin of the boy and locals created ruckus demanding action against the accused doctor. They also alleged that the doctor had committed similar acts in the recent past.

Family members of the patient have also accused the doctor of taking Rs 900 from them as bribe for carrying out the operation.

The Kumbharpada police, on being informed about the situation, reached the hospital and started investigation. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has formed a committee for probing into the matter.

On the other hand, the doctor has refuted the allegations by terming those as baseless.
