Doctor detained after minor alleges molestation during treatment at Odisha’s PRM-MCH

Sources said the 15-year-old girl, who lives in the tribal hostel at Badasahi here, was suffering from fever and had gone to the hospital with her parents on Monday. However, after coming from the hospital, she shared with her parents that the doctor touched her inappropriately during check-up.

Baripada:  Tension prevailed after a minor tribal girl accused a doctor of molesting her during treatment at Baripada’s Pandit Raghunath Murmu Government Medical College and Hospital (PRM-MCH) in Mayurbhanj district on Monday. The accused doctor, a pediatrician at the hospital, has been detained by police following the allegation.

Sources said the 15-year-old girl, who lives in the tribal hostel at Badasahi here, was suffering from fever and had gone to the hospital with her parents on Monday. However, after coming from the hospital, she shared with her parents that the doctor touched her inappropriately during check-up. Family members of the girl then reached  out to the police and filed a complaint alleging that the doctor was drunk and misbehaved with their daughter on the pretext of treating her.

As the news spread, irate locals from the girl’s village gathered at the pediatrics ward in the hospital and locked up the accused doctor’s chamber demanding immediate action against him. Police on getting information reached the spot and tried to assuage  the agitatiors. The stir was later called off after the villagers were assured of needful action.

Meanwhile, police have detained the accused doctor. Commenting on the incident, Baripada IIC Birendra Kumar Senapati confirmed that the accused doctor has been detained for interrogation. A case in this regard has been registered and further investigation is underway.
