Dolphin carcass found floating in Chilika lake

Brahmagiri: The carcass of a dolphin was found floating in Chilika lake, which has emerged as the single largest habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins in the world, near Mahisa village under Satapada Forest Range today.

On receiving information, forest officials rushed to the spot, recovered the carcass and brought it to Satapada forest in a boat. The exact cause behind the death of the mammal will be ascertained after post-mortem, said Satapada Forest Range Officer Manas Mohapatra.

The 12-feet-long dolphin is aged around 10 years. he said.

The post-mosterm of the mammal by veterinarians at Satapada will reveal the circumstances surrounding its death, Mohapatra added.
