Chilika: Carcass of an Irrawaddy dolphin has been found near Satapada Forest Range of Chilika Lake today.

The dolphin squad of Satapada Forest Range recovered the floating carcass from Magarmukha channel, while patrolling the Chilika Lake.

According to Satapada Forest Range Officer Manas Mohapatra, the 6 feet 5 inch dophin is a female and has a girth of 3 feet 8 inches.

The mammal has been sent for post-mortem to Satapada Range Office and the cause of its death is yet to be deduced, he said.

Notably, Chilika has emerged as the single largest habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins in the world. The annual dolphin census was conducted by Chilika Development authority and the forest department last month.
