Domestic violence: Odisha woman assaulted by hubby, branded with iron rod

Jajpur: Despite stringent laws against domestic violence, the women continue to be victims of physical torture by their life partners.

An incident was reported from Padmapur area under Vyasanagar municipality of Jajpur district in Odisha where a woman was inhumanly assaulted by her husband and branded with a hot iron rod on her entire body.

The victim identified as Jhuma Kajual is now undergoing treatment at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jajpur Road where her condition is stated to be critical.

According to reports, Jhuma had love marriage with Rabi Kajual of Sapa Gadia locality in Jajpur district seven years ago. The couple has a daughter (5) and a 3-year-old son.

The incident occurred following heated argument between the two while their children were playing outside the house together on Saturday. Suddenly, Rabi closed the door from inside and started beating up his wife without mercy for two hours. Later, the furious husband branded Jhuma with a hot iron rod on her entire body from head to toe.

After hearing screaming of the woman, the neighbours rescued her in critical condition. She was rushed to the CHC for treatment.

Sources said that the doctors have referred her to the SCB Medical College & Hospital. The victim held her husband responsible for such condition.

Till the filing of the report, no complaint was registered at a police station.

When contacted the Jajpur Road Police Station about the incident, the police said that no written complaint has been made in this regard so far and action will be taken against the accused after the woman recovers from injuries.
