Double murder convict dies in Odisha’s Boudh

Boudh: A murder convict, who was undergoing life imprisonment at the Boudh sub-jail, died on the way to hospital here today. He was 84 and suffering from old-age illness.

The deceased identified as Kamapala Khamari of Godhaneswar village under Biramaharajpur police limits in Sonepur district was arrested in a double murder case.

Sources said Khamari had beheaded two persons in 2011. While a lower court had pronounced death sentence for Khamari, the Supreme Court later relaxed the sentence and awarded life imprisonment to him. Since then, he had been staying in various jails. He was lodged at Boudh Sub-jail in 2016.

On December 5, Khamari was admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) after he was taken ill. He was later discharged following recovery. Today, he again fell ill and died on the way to hospital, said a jail official.
