Double murder: Man kills 2-yr-old son, neighbour in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly stabbed his two-year-old son to death in Nabarangpur district of Odisha today.

Accused Radhe Santa (35) of Gujamapadar village under Maidalpur police limits in Nabarangpur also killed an elderly woman when she tried to intervene, sources said.

According to villagers, Radhe picked up a quarrel with his wife Malati over some issue today morning. He later tried to attack his wife with a sharp weapon.

Radhe stabbed his son repeatedly after Malati ran away from their house to save her life. The baby boy died on the spot.

Radhe also attacked Janaye Santa (60), a neighbour, when she tried to intervene. The elderly woman also succumbed to her injuries, they added.

Soon villagers overpowered Radhe and tied his hands before thrashing him. On being informed, Maidalpur police reached the spot and rescued the accused in a critical condition.

The accused was immediately rushed to a hospital at Papadahandi and later shifted to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). He was referred to SLN Medical College and Hospital at Koraput after his condition deteriorated.

The police have registered a case in this regard and launched a probe into the double murder.

“We have seized the bodies and sent them for postmortem. Preliminary investigation suggests domestic discord as the reason behind the incident. The accused was in a drunken state when he committed the crime,” said Papadahandi SDPO Aditya Sen.
