Sundargarh: A double murder has occurred at Kashipada village under Kutra police limits in Odisha's Sundargarh district, allegedly over a love affair.

The deceased, identified as Pratap Lakra (26) of Rumabahal village and Lipsa Kerketta (24) of Kashipada village, were reportedly killed by Lipsa's lover Raju Nag.

According to the girl's mother, Lipsa, who was preparing for her MBA exams, was in a relationship with Raju, a driver from Jarumala, Rajgangpur. Recently, Raju had been mentally harassing Lipsa, affecting her studies.

Last evening, Raju called Lipsa’s family members, informing them he was coming over. Around 10 PM, he arrived at Lipsa’s house and insisted on taking her with him. Lipsa's parents refused due to the late hour, leading Raju to become agitated.

He insisted on speaking to Lipsa privately and took her to a room. There, an argument ensued, during which Raju attacked Lipsa with a sharp knife, first injuring her hand before fatally stabbing her.

When Lipsa's parents tried to intervene, Raju attacked them as well, locking them in a room. Lipsa’s classmate, Pratap Lakra, who attempted to save her, was also attacked by Raju. He was repeatedly stabbed as well. After committing the crime, Raju fled the scene.

Locals rushed Lipsa and Pratap to the Kutra CHC for treatment. Lipsa was declared dead upon arrival, while Pratap, who was critically injured, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Rourkela.

The Kutra police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
