In the men’s 100-metre sprint, Amiya Mallick struck gold with a timing of 10.56 secs. It was a photo finish for Amiya with Jyoti Shankar Debnath of the Army, who bagged the silver with a timing of 10.56 secs. Krishnakumar Rane of Maharashtra had to settle for the bronze with 10.58 secs.

The qualifying timing for the men’s 100-meter event set by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) was 10.37 secs.

Odisha bagged both the gold and the silver in the women’s 100-meter sprint Srabani Nanda outpacing Dutee Chand (11.86 secs) for the gold with a timing of 11.59 secs. The qualifying timing set for event by AFI was 11.67 secs.

The hits for both the men’s and women’s events were held yesterday while the semi finals and the final took place today.

Significantly, this championship is the selection tournament for the India team that would take part in the Asian Athletic Championship to be held at Wuhan (China).

It may be noted that the Court for Arbitration in Sports (CAS) had recently allowed Dutee Chand, who was banned for hyperandrogenism last year, to particpate in the Wuhan event after a hearing.

The final verdict in the case is awaited.
