Bhubaneswar, Jun 17:
The Twin City Commissionerate Police today pasted a notice at the house of Odisha industrialist Trailokya Mishra asking him, his son Sabyasachi Mishra and wife Asha Manjari to appear at the Mahila police station on or before June 22 to record their statements in connection with the dowry torture case lodged by his daughter-in-law Lopamudra Mishra.
Commissionerate Police claimed that despite best of its efforts it could not contact them nor could ascertain their whereabouts and had to paste the notice (latka in local parlance) at Plot No. 191, Unit III (Trailokya Mishra’s residence) under Kharavela Nagar police limits asking them to appear at the Mahila police station here and record their statements. Police said the notice was part of the process of its investigations into the May 10 complaint of Lopamudra alleging physical and mental torture by her husband and in-laws for dowry.
“Policemen from the Mahila Police station had come and they had pasted a notice written in English asking them to appear before it on or before June 22 and nothing else,” said a private security guard on duty at Trailokya Mishra’s Unit III residence.
“Notice has been served to her accused husband and her parents to appear at the police station and record their statements. We had tried to contact them but it could not materialize and were forced to serve the notice. We have pasted the notice at their residence,” said Satyabrata Bhoi, DCP Bhubaneswar.
It may be recalled here that Lopamudra apart from levelling charges of physical and mental torture for dowry against Sabyasachi and his family members, had also alleged that her husband had proposed her to go for wife-swapping with a foreigner during a trip to Port Blair.
She had lodged a complaint at the Mahila Police Station on May 10 vide case no. 117/2016 alleging to have been subjected to physical and mental torture for dowry by her husband and her in-laws.
Since no action was taken by the police even after a month of her lodging the complaint with the police she revealed her story of torture before the media on Tuesday.
Further, on Wednesday, Lopamudra lodged a complaint at the Badagada police station that five to six unidentified young men on Tuesday late in the evening had barged into her parental home at Tankapani Road where she is currently residing.
In the complaint, she had stated that these men had threatened to kill her apart from warning her to kidnap her son if she went to the police or media against her husband and father-in-law.
