DRDO Espionage: Odisha Crime Branch shares more info on ‘mysterious’ woman

Bhubaneswar: On completion of a seven-day remand, the five accused arrested in DRDO espionage incident were produced before court today. And if required, they will again be taken on remand for interrogation, informed Crime Branch Additional Director General (ADG) Sanjeeb Panda today.

The senior cop further informed that the ‘mysterious’ woman had seven Facebook accounts under different names. She was in contact with the five accused through social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook on regular basis. She even had proposed two of them for marriage.

“She used to video call two of the accused frequently. Claiming that she is a resident of Balasore district, the woman had invited one of the accused persons to meet her at her residence in Chandipur,” he added.

Further investigation is underway to get details of the UK phone number and the bank account in Dubai, from where one of the accused had received a cash transfer of around Rs 38,000. Efforts are underway to know if the accused had received more money from any other source and the actual identity and whereabouts of the woman.

Earlier on September 22, Crime Branch sources had revealed that the mysterious’ woman was in contact with the five former contractual staff of the high-security defence installation for the last one and a half years using multiple identities.

On September 14, the Balasore police had arrested the five accused on charges of sharing classified defence information with unknown foreign agents, who are suspected to be from Pakistan.
