Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police on the outskirts of Odisha’s Rourkela city late last night.

The criminal, identified as Sunil Majhi, was initially admitted to the Rourkela Government Hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off about presence of Sunil near Siudi in Lathikata area here, a police team reached the place and tried to apprehend him.

In a bid to escape, Sunil opened fire at the cops, following which the policemen retaliated and he sustained bullet injury on his leg.

A gun has been seized from his possession and further investigation is underway. More than 29 criminal cases including those of murder are pending against him, police sources said.
