Driver burnt alive as speeding pickup van catches fire following collision with tractor

Deogaon: The driver of a pickup van was charred to death today after the speeding vehicle rammed into a tractor and caught fire near Deogaon locality on Bargarh-Borigumma NH-26 in Bolangir.

According to a senior official at the local police station, the incident took place near High School Square at around 8.30 pm. The ill-fated vehicle (registration number OD-15 R-2101) was on its way from Bolangir to Deogaon, when it met with an accident. The identity of the deceased has not been ascertained yet.

The mango-laden pickup van was also completely gutted in the fatal road mishap. The tractor carrying house building materials (registration number OD-03 K-9680) was going from Deogaon to elsewhere, which has overturned and been severely damaged, the police official expressed.

On being informed, a team of fire services personnel reached the spot and doused the flames.

Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
