Driver charred to death as two vehicles collide on NH-53 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The driver of a mini-truck was charred to death when the vehicle caught fire after colliding with a heavy truck on National Highway (NH) 53 in Kuchinda area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district today.

According to locals, the mini-truck and a coal-laden truck collided head on near Badakundesara under Jamankira police limits in Sambalpur today.

The mini-truck overturned and caught fire due to the impact of the collision. The driver of the mini-truck was charred to death as he could not come out of the vehicle, said a local.

The helper of the mini-truck sustained critical injuries in the mishap, he added.

On being informed, the Fire Brigade personnel and Jamankira police reached the spot and doused the flames.

However, the identity of the deceased driver is yet to be ascertained. The injured helper was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla, locals said.
