Driver held, SUV seized in hit-and-run case in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested the driver of a luxury SUV in connection with a hit-and-run case in Odisha capital here on March 29.

Accused Jagan Paika (32), who has been booked under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the IPC, was arrested by the Saheed Nagar police in the capital city here. The accused has been produced in a local court.

The police also seized the luxury SUV (OD33AK6888) in connection with the case. The vehicle has been registered in the name of a real estate firm.

The SUV, driven by Paika, had hit tea seller Dillip Parida while he was removing trash in front of his stall in Saheed Nagar area on March 29. Parida, a resident of Binjharpur area in Jajpur, sustained grievous injuries in the incident. However, Paika along with the vehicle had fled the spot soon after the mishap.

On being informed, police reached the spot and rushed Parida to a hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the doctor.
