Drunk man beats wife to death; mob makes accused to kneel in Odisha

In a bizarre incident, a person today allegedly thrashed his wife to death in an inebriated state under Biridi police limits in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha.

The deceased has been identified as Nibedita Behera (25) and the accused Santosh Biswal (25) of Patuary village, who had tied the nuptial knot in 2011.

According to reports, the couple was at odds and the accused used to allegedly torture his wife for dowry.

Last night, he thrashed her mercilessly in an inebriated state. The torture did not stop there. He again picked up quarrel with his wife and beat her up till this morning owing which she lost consciousness.

She was rushed to Raghunathpur Community Health Centre by her in-laws where the attending doctor declared her dead on arrival.

Getting the news of her demise, hundreds of villagers accompanied by the father of the deceased rushed to the hospital.

Irate villagers beat the accused black and blue and made him to kneel.

Police arrived at the spot being informed about the incident and rescued the accused.

A complaint has been filed at Biridi police station by the deceased’s father Sukant Beura. We have started probe into the murder after sending the body for post mortem, police said.
