Drunk man kills wife with umbrella stick in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly killed his wife with the stick of an umbrella after she scolded him for consuming liquor regularly in Nabarangpur district of Odisha today.

The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Khilo of Badadaibhata village under Nabarangpur Town police limits.

Sasmita had tied the knot with one Rabi Khilo of Malkangiri some years ago. Soon after the wedding, Rabi had left his native place and resided with Sasmita at Badadaibhata. The couple was blessed with two sons, sources said.

The couple was earning a livelihood by selling roasted corn at a roadside stall in the locality. However, Rabi used to quarrel with Sasmita by consuming liquor regularly, said a local.

The couple also got engaged in a quarrel over the issue today. In a fit of rage, Rabi stabbed Sasmita with the stick of an umbrella repeatedly. She died at the spot, added the local.

On being informed, the police seized the body and sent it for postmortem. They have also detained the accused for interrogation, sources added.
