Drunk car driver runs over dog in Odisha capital, FIR lodged

Bhubaneswar: A car driven by a drunk man allegedly ran over a dog at Surekha Vatika Market Complex, Atala Village in Balianta area of Odisha capital. People for Animals organisation has lodged an FIR in this connection.

As per the complaint, the incident took place on January 28 at 3.36 pm when the person in an inebriated state drove the car while the vehicle ran over the neck of one of the adopted dogs of the organisation, thereby killing the animal on the spot. It has been alleged that he committed the act intentionally.

The incident has been captured on CCTV camera. The Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number OD02BM3600 is owned by one Kumar Arindam, as per mParivahan app, the complainant said.

“The killing of a dog violates IPC 279 for rash driving on a public road. It also violates IPC 429 which is punishable as per the law. He also violated 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. It is also a violation of Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960,” the complainant added.
