Drunk Odisha cop involved in hit-and-run suspended

Baripada: An Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was suspended for allegedly committing a hit-and-run after liquor consumption in Udala area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

Mayurbhanj SP Smit P. Parmar has placed Subhendu Behera, ASI of Baripada police headquarters, under suspension.

According to reports, Behera, being in an inebriated state, was driving a car on Udala-Kaptipada road last evening. The car hit a scooter on which two persons were travelling, as a result of which the duo sustained injuries.

The police official then tried to flee the spot with the car, during the process of which the four-wheeler dashed against a pole near Krushak Bazar.

Locals, who gathered at the spot, manhandled the cop on realising that he was drunk. Later, Udala police reached the place and rescued him. A case has been registered against Behera and investigation is underway.
