Drunken groom lands in police station after high drama in Odisha. Here’s why

Rourkela: In a weird incident reported in steel city here, a wedding ceremony was stopped mid-way after the venue turned battlefield by the persons from both bride and groom families and their associates.

Police detained the drunken groom and others on basis of the complaint lodged by the bride’s family members.

The groom and his associates were accused of creating ruckus and abusing the bride’s family members under influence of alcohol during the wedding ceremony last night.

According to reports, the wedding of Arsul Panda’s daughter, a resident of Labour Colony under Tangarpali police limits was fixed with Shankar Panda of Champagarh slum under Bandhamunda police limits. However, the persons, who were part in the groom’s procession, were heavily drunk and started misbehaving with bride’s family members after the procession arrived at wedding venue at Saranagari Jagannath Temple in Rourkela.

Following heated arguments between the persons in both the sides, the wedding ceremony was stopped mid-way. The family members of the bride gheraoed the Tangarpali police station demanding compensation for the loss.

Police launched investigation into the incident after detaining the drunken groom and his associates in this connection following complaint by the bride’s family.
