‘Dummy message’ on another cyclone in Odisha creates flutter

Bhubaneswar: While bitter memories of cyclone FANI still haunts the people of Puri and Khordha districts, a ‘dummy message’ on cyclone alert posted on Facebook by the office of Odisha Special Relief Commissioner has left many panic-stricken.

The message, which is a part of statewide mock exercise, was posted this morning and features ‘warning for Odisha coast’ over ‘Severe Cyclonic storm HIKAA in East central Bay of Bengal’.

With the dummy message containing prediction of wind speed of 205-215 kmph, several Facebook users were seemingly confused over the post while some advised not to put such messages on the social networking site saying that it might cause spreading of rumours.
