The delegation demanded identification of investors in a specified time-frame.

“If the investors are not identified, how can the state government pay them their deposit amount – whether through its corpus fund or from the confiscated properties of these chit fund companies? The Manch has been demanding from the outset that the state government should take up the process for identification of the depositors on its own since it has adequate manpower and resources to do it,” Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, chief advisor of the Manch, told reporters later.

“The state government should identify the number of investors and the amount they had invested in these chit fund companies so that it can trace the money trail. The state government need not pay the money from its own funds. It can be sourced from the confiscated properties of these chit fund companies,” said Rabi Das, senior journalist, who was a member of the delegation.

“The state government, in its new terms of reference (ToR), has asked the Commission to recommend the investors, who have not filed their affidavits till date, by taking up their questions and claims into consideration,” said Justice Das.
