Duplicate ghee manufacturing unit busted in Cuttack; items worth over Rs 1 cr seized

Cuttack: Busting a manufacturing unit of duplicate ghee in Jagatpur area here, the Commissionerate Police arrested two persons and seized items worth over Rs 1 crore today.

A joint team of officials of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the Commissionerate Police conducted the raid and busted the unit.

“We have seized goods worth over Rs 1 crore and further investigation is underway,” informed police sources.

The officials also seized chemicals used for making the adulterated ghee, production machines, packing materials and labels of different brands from the factory.

“In the last two months, Cuttack City Police has detected 15 adulterated food processing units which were running without authorization and have seized duplicate goods worth Rs 4.50 crore. Besides, 16 persons have been arrested during the period. These units were producing ghee, turmeric , honey, chilly powder, spices, sauce and other products by mixing harmful and cancer causing chemicals,” informed Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.
