Dust storm, light showers bring relief

People in Odisha today heaved a sigh of relief as temperature fell appreciably in most parts of the state with reports of rain and thundershower at some places in the afternoon.

The capital city witnessed strong winds followed by a dust storm and light drizzle in the late afternoon. Several areas in the city remained without power for nearly an hour as a eresult of the dust storm.

Temperature dropped by an average of 2 degree in Baleswar, Chandbali, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Angul, Baripada, Jharsuguda, Keonjhargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Hirakud, Talcher, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Phulbani and Titlagarh and Sonepur where mercury had hovered at 42-43 degree Celsius a couple of days ago.

Sonepur recorded the highest temperature at 41.2 degree Celsius, while temperature rose to 40 degree and above in Bhubaneswar (40), Angul (41.1), Jharsuguda (40), Sambalpur (40.7), Hirakud (40.3) and Titlagarh (40).

The local Met office has predicted rain and thundershower at some places in the next 72 hours after which the temperature is likely to soar.
