Earthquake hits Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Residents of various parts of Malkangiri district were panicked a lot after mild tremors were felt at around 11.15 am today.

Reportedly, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on Ritchter Scale was felt in several parts of the district. The epicentre of the earthquake was around 34 kilometre south of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh with a depth of 10 km. The tremors were felt in Khairaput and Mathili  blocks along with few other places  in the district. 

Soon after, panicked residents rushed out of their house for their safety.  The tremor remained  for around two to three seconds. Due to the quake, cracks  were found on few buildings, including Malkangiri SP office and a temple here. Besides, patients and their attendants vacated the seven storied building of the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. 

The impact of the earthquake was also reportedly seen in Baipariguda of Koraput district, sources added.
