ECI team arrives in Odisha to review poll preparedness

Bhubaneswar:  A high-level Election Commission of India (ECI) team led by Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa arrived in Odisha capital today to oversee the preparation for Assembly and General elections scheduled to be held later this year.

A six-member team led by Lavasa reached at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here this evening and will hold a day-long discussion with all political parties on Thursday.

The other members of the team are Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Deputy Election Commissioner, D K Sharma, DG Expenditure, Sheyphali Saran, ADG, PIB, Nikhil Kumar, Director and Rakesh Kumar, Secretary.

“We are here to carry out a review of the level of preparedness for the general elections and the state assembly elections,” Lavasa told reporters at the airport.

“We will be briefing the media after review,” he added.

During their three-day stay, the ECI team would meet representatives of various political parties, officials of the state election department, state administration and police personnel, sources said.

Besides, the ECI team will also hold discussions with Chief Secretary AP Padhi and Police DG RP Sharma on February 15. The team would also meet civil society members in the State.

The State Assembly election is likely to be held along with Lok Sabha polls in April-May this year.
