Bhubaneswar: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue Rs 20 denomination banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series soon.

The currency notes will bear the signature of new RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, said the central bank today.

The design of the new currency notes is similar to Rs 20 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.

All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by the RBI in the past will continue to be the legal tender, said the central bank.

Malhotra, a 1990-batch Rajasthan Cadre IAS officer, was appointed as the RBI Governor in December last year.

Malhotra was working as Union Revenue Secretary before his appointment as RBI chief. He assumed charge from incumbent RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.
