ED attaches Rs 6.52 cr assets of Odisha god man Sura Baba

Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today attached assets worth Rs 6.52 crore of self styled Odisha god man Surendra Nath Mishra alias Sura Baba on account of cheating and fraud cases.

With this total worth of assets attached by the ED belonging to the self styled god man, his two sons and a trust run by them stands at Rs 21.47 crore.

Earlier last year on March 30, the ED had attached assets worth nearly Rs 14.95 crore which included Rs 2.35 crore bank balance in the names of Sura Baba and his two sons Trilochan and Biranchi and the Trahi Achyuta Ashram property at Jhinti Sasan on the outskirts of Odisha capital.

It may be recalled here that Sura Baba and his two sons were arrested by the Balipatna police on August 31, 2015.

The trio was arrested under section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and section 3(I)(x) of the ST and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

More than two years after his arrest, Sura Baba was released from the Jharpada Special Jail here on December 1 last year. Sura Baba was granted bail by the Supreme Court on November 28 last year.
