ED registers case under PMLA against SUM Hosp

There seems to be no end to the woes of the beleaguered Institute of Medical Sciences & SUM Hospital ever since fire mishap there, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to examine the finances of the ‘Sikshya O Anusandhan Charitable Trust’ that run several institutions including the hospital.

Sources in the ED’s Zonal Office here said the agency has got hold of several financial documents of the Trust from the local police and banks.

The agency will be soon issuing summons to the trustees of the trust running the hospital and other institutions, the sources added.

The ED has registered the case basing on the FIRs lodged with the police in connection with the fire incident, sources further said.

It may be recalled here that Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Black Money had directed the ED to look into the financial transactions of the hospital and the trust that runs it while asking the DGP Odisha to cooperate with the latter in the matter.
