Bhubaneswar: Judge of International Court of Justice Dalveer Bhandari today said that education is the Universal human right and poverty can be eradicated through education.
“Education is a special manifestation of human race and a person without education is similar to an animal,” said Bhandari while addressing students at KIIT and KISS on the occasion of Constitution Day.
The ICJ Judge was also conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) for his outstanding contribution in the field of human rights awareness.
Addressing the Law students at KIIT, Justice Bhandari said, “Higher education is the driving force of economic development. Development depends on education. University stands for humanism and tolerance. Education is a very important constituent of development of paradigm as without it the whole process of development is incomplete. It is important means to build our society in both civilized and peaceful manner, he added.
During this occasion an international Seminar on ‘International Commercial Arbitration – A Boost for World Trade’ was organised by KIIT Law School.

Notably, Judge Bhandari, a native of Rajasthan, was first elected to the ICJ, the principal judicial organ of the U.N., in 2012 for the remainder term of a judge who quit prematurely. He was re-elected to the post on November 20 and his new full term of nine years will begin on February 6, 2018.
