Egg attack: Odisha CM asks police to drop all cases against woman

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed the state police to withdraw all cases registered against Rajeswari Kamila, the woman who had hurled eggs at him in Balasore recently.

The Odisha Police had earlier on February 5 dropped attempt to murder charges (Section 307 of IPC) levelled against the woman.

Balasore police had registered case against her under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 294 (anyone indulging in an obscene act in any public place or sings or utters any obscene songs or words in any public place causing annoyance to others) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC.

Rajeswari, protesting the arrest of her husband and BJP worker Dilip Kamila, had thrown two eggs back to back at Patnaik on January 31 when the CM was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Talasari Beach Festival in Balasore district.

However, the eggs didn’t hit Patnaik and fell near the podium on which he was standing and delivering his speech.

She was admitted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment after allegedly being manhandled by BJD workers.

The Jaleswar JMFC court had granted her conditional bail on February 8.
