Egg attack on Odisha CM’s convoy; Students’ Cong head sent to jail

Bhubaneswar, Apr 3:

President of the Odisha unit of Students’ Congress Satyajit Patnaik alias Milan, who was arrested by Kharavela Nagar police here late on Thursday night in connection with the incident of stone and egg throwing on the Chief Minister’s convoy on February 19, was today sent to judicial custody after his bail petition was rejected by a local court.

Section 307 (attempt to murder) has been slapped against Patnaik, who will be sent to the Jharpada jail here today, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

Fifteen members of the Students’ Congress arrested earlier by commissionerate police in this incident are now out on bail while five more, including state Youth Congress president Rajat Choudhury, are still on the run, the DCP said.

A group fo Student and Youth Congress activists had breached the security cordon and thrown stones and eggs at the Chief Minister’s car near the Keshari Talkies here while he was on his way to attend a students’ union function there.
