District administration officials and Child Protection Officer in a joint operation rescued eight child labourers and rounded-up their parents from near the Simha Dwara of the Sri Mandir today.

According to reports, these men and women, who are nomads beg alms for their sustenance and engage their children in selling toys often causing harassment to tourists.

The issue had come up for discussion during a meeting between lawyers and the Collector yesterday.

Concern was expressed at the meeting to prevent such incidents.

Police administration and child protection officials have decided to initially evacuate these nomads from around the temple and later from other parts of the holy town.
