Elaborate arrangements for Kartika rituals at Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate facilities for Habisyalis on October 29.

Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has made necessary arrangements for performance of all routine as well as special rituals at the 12th century shrine in Odisha’s Puri town during the holy month of Kartika beginning tomorrow (October 29).

The temple authorities had earlier finalized the schedule for the rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings during the holy month.

As per the schedule, the temple will be opened for people at 4 am every day till November 27. The Radha Damodar Besa of Lord Jagannath would be performed within 6.30 am and 7.30 am throughout Kartika month, said an official of the SJTA.

This year, the Habisyalis, elderly women who observe Kartika Brata, would be provided shelter facilities at Brundabati Bhakta Niwas, Bagala Dharmshala, Akhaya Patra Foundation, Bagedia Dharmshala and Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap in the Holy Town. The Puri district administration has made the necessary arrangements in this regard under the Habisyali scheme of the state government, sources said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to inaugurate the facilities for the Habisyalis through videoconference on October 29 (Sunday).

The Puri district administration has deployed as many as 18 platoons of police force in and around the shrine to ensure safety and security of the devotees and Habisyalis during the holy month.

Two Additional SP-rank officials, seven DSP-rank officials, 10 police inspectors, 44 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 70 Havildars will be deployed near the temple to oversee the security arrangements, sources said.
