Elaborate security drill in Odisha capital ahead of Prez visit

Odisha police is leaving no stones unturned to ensure foolproof security for the visit of President of India Pranab Mukherjee, who will be on a two-day tour to Odisha starting tomorrow.

The President will arrive in his special plane and land at the old terminal of Biju Patnaik airport at 5:29 pm tomorrow. He is scheduled to attend the Golden Jubilee celebration of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in the evning and another event at Ramadevi Women’s Autonomous College here on Sunday.

A mock security drill with the carcade was held today by commissionerate police. The carcade started from Raj Bhavan here and reached the event venue at Rama Devi college and then from RD college to the other venue at Utkal Sangeeta Mahavidyalaya. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi has been put in charge of the security arrangements during the Presidential tour.

The empty crosses along the road from the airport to Raj Bhavan have been barricaded and will be guarded by armed police. Traffic police will be deployed at various lanes and by-lanes connecting the main road  while ambulance and fire services will be made part of President’s carcade, sommissionerate police sources said.

“The route from airport to Raj Bhavan and Raj Bhawan to event venues will be fortified and traffic will be regulated during the tour. 40 platoons of cops will be deployed to take care of the entire operation. DCP, Traffic has been entrusted with the task of traffic regulation. Four DCPs, 2 deputy commandants, 6 additional DCPs along with 300 officers will be part of the exercise,” said twin city Commissioner of Police Dr R P Sharma to OST.
