Dhenkanal: A 75-year-old man was crushed to death by an elephant at Khatuahata village under Pandua police outpost in Dhenkanal district early  this morning.

As per reports, Kartika Sahu went outside at around 5.30 AM today for defecation, when he confronted a wild elephant. The pachyderm lifted the elderly man with its trunk and flung him to the ground.

Later, his family members rushed him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here in critical condition. However, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Family members of the deceased will be provided with a compensation of Rs 40,000, said Dhenkanal Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Prakash Chand Gogineni.
