Elderly man dies in elephant attack in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: An elderly man died after allegedly being attacked by an elephant at a forest near Machua village under Morada block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, today.

The deceased has been identified as Gajendra Mahanta (75). He had gone to the forest this morning for attending nature’s call when an elephant attacked him.

The pachyderm trampled him to death on the spot. Forest officials reached the spot on being informed and started investigation.

As many as 13 elephants have strayed into the area from Similipal. Presence of the jumbos for the last 15 days has left the residents panic-stricken, reports said.
