Elderly man dies of electrocution in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident, an elderly person died of electrocution after allegedly coming in contact with a high voltage power cable near Koilimunda village under Chandahandi Block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Diyalu Takri, aged about 65 years and resident of Koilimunda village.

According to reports, a 33 KV power cable was lying on a farmland after it snapped off a few days ago. In this regard, the villagers of Koilimunda had informed to the electricity office. However, the officials had not disconnected power from the electric pole.

Sources said that Takri had paid Rs 200 from his hiked old age pension money to an electricity official for disconnection of power. However, the issue was unresolved.

Unfortunately, the old man was charged after coming in contact with the live wire today morning.  He succumbed to injuries after a while. The incident sparked tension as the electricity officials did not reach the spot for a long hour.

Till the last report came in, the family members did not allow the police officials to send the body for post-mortem demanding compensation for loss.
